Privacy & Data

Octoclip is local-first by design. This page explains where content is stored, how sync works, how encryption applies, and what you can control.

Where Your Data Stays

  • Clipboard content stays in your local sandbox
  • If cross-network sync is disabled, content does not go to external cloud paths

Sync Modes and Encryption

Nearby Sync

  • For devices on the same network
  • After PIN pairing, devices exchange certificates and establish a mutually authenticated encrypted direct connection; clip content is encrypted between paired devices only and does not pass through Octoclip servers (i.e. end-to-end encrypted)
  • No account required

Cloud Sync

  • For cross-network scenarios
  • Supports configurable paths such as WebDAV / S3
  • Supports optional user-controlled encryption

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not use Octoclip-owned cloud storage to keep your clipboard content
  • We do not analyze your clipboard content
  • We do not use clipboard content for ads or personalization

The above concerns clipboard content. For how account, license, purchase, support, and diagnostic information (such as email) is handled, see the Privacy Policy.

What You Control

  • Enable or disable Nearby Sync and Cloud Sync
  • Clear clip history
  • Manage the system permissions the app needs (such as, on some platforms, permissions for clipboard monitoring and Quick Input), and turn them off in system settings when not needed
  • Change sync path configuration
